Intro

Another fantastic London photography workshop has finished!

I had the honor to spend three intensive days (and countless hours of walking I must admit), around the city of London, with an amazing group: with Andreea, Vicky, Angelos, Ntinos and Vassilis. This was a team of people that, by the end, had a lot more to share than just photography.

Our focus for this workshop was centered on creative control, and most importantly, in the power of the “Less is More” philosophy. This is a mindset that I had shared not only through my workshops, but in various lectures and posts. It is aimed to truly free the photographer from technical constraints, and is the key to evolve their personal vision, allowing them to shoot with total freedom.

Day 0.5

The workshop started in the early evening of Thursday, October 23rd. While the weather offered the classic London mood (shower rain, high humidity, some cold), the group assembled close to Westminster. We started our journey with some classic, low-light shots of the Big Ben from the Arch. As the rain gradually stopped, we had the perfect atmosphere to explore the nearby Southbank area, focusing on Long Exposure and urban reflections.

Day 1

The morning of Friday, October 24th, surprised us with a clear sky and magnificent sun. After an early morning coffee in a small alley, we had the perfect opportunity to capture dramatic shots with intense light and shadow as we started our walk from Notting Hill towards Hyde Park. In the early evening, an hour before sunset, we entered The Shard to capture the magnificent views from the 68th floor, documenting the city in all its glory during both sunset and blue hour. The day ended with a night walk in Southbank.

Day 2

Saturday, October 25th, was dedicated to architectural photography. Our walk started from Barbican Estate, where we explored its iconic Brutalist forms and textures. With relatively good weather, we continued our journey towards the City of London and St. Paul’s Cathedral, spending hours capturing diverse photos, from modern geometry to neoclassical details. We ended the day with a well-deserved meal in a Soho pub to recharge for the early morning wakeup call planned for the next day.

Day 3

On Sunday, October 26th, the final day of the workshop, the group moved to Greenwich Park to capture a magnificent (though very cold!) sunrise with the Queen’s House in the foreground and the dense skyscrapers of Canary Wharf in the background. Before ending the workshop, we visited Canary Wharf itself, one of my favorite locations in the city, and to our suprise, we encountered an intense and rather dramatic scene being filmed for a new movie (sorry, no photos from this, there weren’t allowed even by phone)! Although some of the areas that I had planned for photography in the area were not accessible because of the filming, it was definetely worth it and the group really enjoyed it!

Gifts & Giveaway

Each participant was given a free Kenko Mist filter, an offer from Kenko Tokina, which they had the chance to shoot with since the first day of the workshop.
I showcased to the group what is the filter effect and how can they use it to change their photos.

Kenko Black Mist No 05 from Kenko Global
The group receives their filters in Hyde Park

Except the filters, a giveaway draw took place during the last day, and three (3) winners won the following:

Andreea took home a robust Slik Rover A tripod to master their Long Exposure photography (an offer from Slik Global)
Vicky and Vassilis each won a license for the incredible film emulation software, Dehancer, to bring a unique, analog feel to their digital photos (an offer from Dehancer company).

Special Thanks

This workshop would not have been possible without the generous support and high-quality equipment provided by our partners. A massive thank you to:

  • Kenko Global, for providing a Kenko Mist Filter to all participants,
  • Slik Global, for providing a Slik Rover Aluminum travel tripod to one participant,
  • Dehancer, for providing two licenses for two participants.
